Fun Campfire Ideas
Edible Fire
Each girl can build her own fire/snack. She will learn how to build it and what
safety measures she must take
Supplies:
• Paper plate/napkin
• Small cup w/ water (water bucket)
• Fork (rake)
• Toothpick (Match)
• M&Ms (fire ring)
• Potato sticks (tinder)
• Pretzel sticks (kindling)
• Pretzel Logs (fuel)
• Red Hots (sparks)
• Candy Corn (fire)
Make sure you pull your hair back…that’s the safe way. Fill your cup with water
and lay your fork next to your plate. Now make a larger circle on your plate out
of M&Ms. Make an A with your fuel, lay your tinder inside the logs in the top
corner of you’re A. Light a match and add some sparks. When the small fire has
started you’ll add kindling, don’t forget to leave room for air flow. Now you
have fire add the candy corn. Your fire is now complete, If you wanted to put it
out you would splash water on it and rake out the coals.
Banana
Boats
Ingredients:
•
1 Banana (not peeled)
•
Mini marshmallows
•
Chocolate chips
Preparation:
Peel banana down one side and cut a wedge into it. Place marshmallows and
chocolate chips into the wedge, and cover with peel and aluminum foil. Put into
coals for about 5 minutes.
You can be creative with different flavored chips and some peanut butter!
Where to go?
You can build your campfire at one of the council owned camps! That’s right, you
can enjoy our properties without feeling obligated to stay overnight. Bring your
troop for your next meeting or for a afternoon picnic on the weekend, just call
Debbie Santel at (513) 489-1025 ext 132 to make arrangements.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CAMP BUTTERWORTH
2005
marks Camp Butterworth’s 75th year with the Girl Scouts - Great Rivers
Council.
In 1930, Mr. William Butterworth gave the Cincinnati Girl Scouts free use of 140
acres for 20 years for a summer camp. Land was cleared for the first four units.
The first tents had dirt floors. They were so muddy that the girls laid stone
floors. Eventually, wooden platforms, like ours, were built. On rainy days, the
girls would play a game called mumblety-peg under the tents to amuse themselves.
The Girl Scouts had no swimming pool in those days. Before coming to camp, they
all had to take Typhoid shots so that they could safely swim in the river. They
would go down through the woods through an underpass under the track and there
they were! The girls who could not swim would wade and collect toads along the
shore.
Don’t miss your chance to earn the Camp Butterworth 75th anniversary patch.

patch program activities . (http://www.grgsc.org/girls/BW%2075th%20patch%20program.pdf
